Changing Process Times is simply a matter of highlighting a Work Center and typing in the figure you want.

Point the mouse at Work Center 1 and click on it. The Work Center Properties should appear on the ribbon at the top.

The time to process each item that enters this work center is 10 minutes - the default time assigned by SIMUL8. Change this to 5 minutes by clicking in the "Average" box.

You can also change the name of the work center. Alter the name to Process 1 - the work center properties box should now look like the picture above.

The Distribution is currently set to Average. This means that the processing time is variable - you can change the distribution used by selecting the down arrow.

Change the processing times of the other work centers to 5 also.

Next, click on the Work Entry Point, and change the Inter Arrival Time to 5.

The Work Entry Point uses the Inter Arrival Time, or time between each item arriving. This means that roughly once every 5 minutes an item is pushed into the simulation, or put another way 12 items per hour.

The smaller the Inter Arrival Time the more items will enter the simulation.

Now, experiment with different distributions. You will have seen queues building up - what happens if you change all the Processing times, and Inter Arrival Time, to Fixed Distributions?
