Glossary

Graphics are a vital part of any presentation, and also have an important part to play in understanding and visualizing what's going on in a simulation.

Any Object can be assigned any bitmap (*.bmp) image. SIMUL8 is supplied with over 200 images, as well as an editor to create new, or edit existing images.

To assign a new image to an object, select the object and click the graphics tab. Select the Main object and select 'More images' to browse the image library.

SIMUL8 images that are assigned to objects are saved in the model file, so will be automatically transported to alternate PCs.Use the Properties option to edit an image, and New to create a new image.

Click on Storage Bin, and in the graphics tab click image list, then select Queue.

This changes the on screen image of the store into a queue of parts, so that it is visible and obvious when the queue grows and diminishes. Experiment with the other Queue options.

The default Work Item image can be changed using the Advanced Tab and clicking on Work Item Types.

This becomes the default Work Item image for all new items entering the simulation, however this can be changed by using the Work Item's Image On Exit option in Work Center Graphics Tab.

Work Centers can be animated by assigning different images to working, waiting, blocked and stopped. Just select what image you want to edit in the Graphics Tab.

It is usually effective to take the Awaiting Work image assigned to a work center, and to color it or amend it in a minor way. Check out MACH1.BMP and MACH2.BMP in the image library to see this.

Work Item image can be changed also, as the item leaves the work center.
