 Dummy Work Centers

A Synthetic Work Center, also called a Dummy Work Center, is a virtual work center, meaning that it is included in your simulation only to perform some logical function, but if you look around your real life system you won't see it.

Synthetic Work Centers can be used as decision points, for example if there is a rule that says "unload a conveyor and send the work item to the shortest queue" then a synthetic work center could be used for this. Synthetic Work Centers have a 0, Fixed cycle time so they don't affect the results of the simulation or cause bottlenecks to develop but can be used to affect model logic.
